Today was a really productive day! We had our intro call with our representative for CARD (Center for Autism & Related Disorders). I am creating a page for all the organizations and resources that we find helpful and worth looking into and CARD will be on it. But just to give a quick overview, CARD is a non-profit organization that provides support and assistance with the goal of optimizing the potential of people with autism spectrum disorder and related disabilities. We filled out an application and it was quickly accepted. If you’re new to the autism journey, you’ll find that “quick” and “fast” are not common words used to describe any of the wait lists you’re put on so we were pleasantly surprised.
I had a Zoom call with Jennifer, our local rep, and we spent an hour talking about Jameson, some of his tendencies, things he likes and doesn’t like, areas of concern, next steps, resources and support groups, etc… Her son is also autistic and grown so it’s comforting to know that she understands what we’re going through because she’s gone through it. I left the call feeling supported, like we have another person on our side. We can reach out to her anytime we have any questions and with enough notice, we can ask for her to attend meetings with us. We went through a number of resources and organizations she recommends and she will be emailing me a thorough list. Once we get a chance to go through them and try utilizing some, I will give feedback on any we like an recommend. It’s starting to feel like we are getting all the necessary things in place to really get Jameson set on a good path. My mommy heart is very full today 🙂
